ASYLUM PROJECT

Started in 2019, Queer Asylum project aims to focus on queer refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, offering them Mawjoudin’s services in a way that is adapted to their needs and situation. The project aspires as well to raise awareness about racism and to fight against all forms of discrimination within the queer community and in the Tunisian society in general.

We guide beneficiaries through administrative procedures, so that they know how to register their asylum application in Tunisia.  A guide with practical information is available in English, French and arabic. We also offer legal, medical and/or psychological assistance to those who may need it.

More generally, we aim to provide a safer and considerate space where these people can receive the psychosocial assistance they need to help them integrate into the country and learn how to build a sustainable life here.

As part of the project, activities are also organized to enable beneficiaries to learn, meet up and exchange ideas, as well as connecting with members of the community and its allies. Among those, we organized multiple training sessions on SRHR in different regions of the country.

In an effort to improve the situation of these people and make progress in the benefit of their rights, we carry out advocacy work and strive to maintain contact with a wide range of partners. We also organized training on SOGIESC for the staff of NGO’s working closely with queer refugees, migrants and asylum seekers in order to help them adapt their services to the needs of the communities.
